What is Blastocyst Transfer?
When an embryo grows for 5 days after fertilization, it is called a blastocyst. The implantation and pregnancy rates are better with blastocyst transfer as only good and healthy embryos survive till day 5. Moreover, it coincides with the day of implantation in a natural pregnancy. It also eliminates the risk of multiple pregnancies as only a single embryo transfer can be done. However, there are high cancellation rates with blastocyst transfer as all healthy-looking embryos might not survive till day 5. If there are 5 grade 1 embryos on day 3 then it is recommended to go in for blastocyst culture. Blastocyst transfer is recommended for patients with recurrent implantation failure and in women with advanced maternal age.
